Serbian centre‑back Lazăr Sirković joins Mumbai City for 2024 campaign

Mumbai City FC confirmed on September 8 that it has signed Serbian centre‑back Lazăr Sirković on a contract lasting one season. The move is part of the club’s preparation for the Indian Super League season that starts on October 10.

The 31‑year‑old defender started his professional career with Rad in the Serbian SuperLiga in 2010, later gaining experience on loan at a lower‑division side. In 2014 he transferred to Partizan, a club renowned for its continental presence, and debuted in the UEFA Europa League against Tottenham Hotspur.

During four seasons with Partizan, Sirković lifted two league titles and a Serbian Cup. His overseas journey continued with spells at FC Lugano (Switzerland), Maccabi Netanya (Israel), and Hungarian clubs Kecskeméti TE and Honvéd before arriving in India.

In the ISL, he first featured for Chennaiyin FC, helping the team earn a place in the playoffs. A subsequent move to Jamshedpur FC saw him earn the “Man of Steel” tag as he contributed to the club’s semi‑final run.

At the international level, Sirković earned his first Serbia Under‑21 appearance in 2013, playing in a home victory over Northern Ireland. He remained part of the U‑21 setup through 2015 and participated in the 2015 UEFA European Under‑21 Championship.

Speaking about his new chapter, Sirković said, “I am arriving at Mumbai City with a champion’s mindset. My goal is to support my teammates and bring a culture of winning, so that we can compete for the biggest trophies in Indian football.”
