September 2026: Gill Secures Fifth ICC Player of the Month, Verma Repeats Triumph

Dubai – The International Cricket Council recognized Shubman Gill and Shefali Verma as the Player of the Month for September 2026. Gill’s outstanding display in the West Indies ODI series, featuring a 110‑run opening effort and a 223‑run on‑slaught in 133 balls, earned him his fifth ICC monthly award – the most by any male cricketer.

Verma’s consistent run‑scoring at the Women’s Asia Cup and her vital role in India’s Asian Games gold medal campaign secured her second Player of the Month title.

In the shortlist for the men’s award, India’s opener Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza were also nominated. The women’s contenders alongside Verma were Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu and India’s left‑arm spinner Shikha Chawla.

Gill praised the panel’s decision and highlighted the evolving speed of one‑day cricket, while also emphasizing the team’s readiness for the 2027 ICC Men’s World Cup in South Africa. Verma expressed excitement about maintaining her form ahead of the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy and the next home ICC tournament.
