In a boost to English county cricket, Kent has secured the services of South Africa’s Senuran Muthusamy for the 2026 season. The spin all-rounder, yet to grace the County Championship or Vitality Blast, will participate in the majority of matches, injecting Proteas pedigree into the squad.
He commits to the full Vitality Blast schedule from May 22 and eight County Championship games. This availability spans the season’s critical phases, where his spin prowess could turn contests.
‘I can’t wait to dive into this new challenge with a storied club,’ Muthusamy said. ‘Feedback from former Kent players has me pumped.’
Simon Cook, Kent’s director of cricket, added: ‘Senuran is the ultimate utility player. His middle-to-lower order batting stabilizes our Championship line-up, and his spin becomes lethal on wearing pitches. For Blast, he offers death-over hitting and middle-over control – a dream addition.’
At 31, Muthusamy was instrumental in South Africa’s Lord’s WTC triumph in 2025. Since his 2019 debut, stats read: 23 Test wickets (8 matches), 6 ODI scalps (5 games), 5 T20I wickets (5 matches). First-class hauls include 10 tons from 115 outings; T20s yield 81 wickets at 6.62 apiece.
Recall his match-winning 109 versus India in late 2024, clinching a 2-0 sweep. That innings showcased his resolve under pressure.
Kent’s strategy leans heavily on overseas stars like Muthusamy to elevate their standing. As preparations ramp up, this signing signals intent to challenge for honors in both formats next summer.
