Second Test ending sees England dominate with 389-run target

London, 30 August – The second Test between England and Pakistan at Lord’s concluded with England enforcing a 389‑run target that the visitors could not meet. Pakistan were bowled out for 194 in their second innings, handing the home side a 2‑0 series lead and ensuring the final match will be played in Birmingham.

England elected to bat after winning the toss and posted 290. Early wickets fell at 36, but Jordan Cox (55) and Jamie Smith (61) forged a crucial partnership. Dan Lawrence contributed 17, while Pakistan’s pacer Mohammad Abbas claimed four wickets, the highest for the touring side.

Pakistan’s response was limited to 110 runs, with Ajaz Owais (46) the top scorer. England’s Ollie Robinson was outstanding, delivering 4‑11 from 13 overs, and Joofra Archer added three wickets.

In England’s second innings, the team added 208 runs, highlighted by Dan Lawrence’s 54 and Harry Brook’s 34. The total gave England a 180‑run advantage.

Pakistan’s chase began with a collapse to 14 for three. Shaan Masood (97) and Saud Shakil attempted to steady the innings, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Robinson struck again, taking four wickets in the final innings, while Josh Tong added three wickets.

The series now stands at 2‑0 in England’s favour, with the third and final Test set to begin in Birmingham on 9 September.
