Sahibzada Farhan Replaces Sam Ayub in Pakistan's Tri-Series Squad
Lahore, October 26: The Pakistan Cricket Board has released Sam Ayub from the squad for the rest of the one-day tri-series against England and Sri Lanka, with Sahibzada Farhan named as his replacement. Sam had asked to be released so he could work on his batting form away from international duty.
Sam's recent returns have been a major concern. He failed to reach double figures in all three of his tri-series innings, leaving the team management with a difficult decision.
The PCB's statement said that following a conversation with the head coach, Sam indicated a wish to return to domestic cricket. The aim is to work on his technique and rebuild his self-belief. The board said the decision had been made with respect for his wishes and appreciation for his candid view of his form.
Farhan, who was recently handed the captaincy of the T20 team, has now been added to the squad. He was initially left out of the tri-series lineup, but he returns to the setup for the remaining matches.
Pakistan have already qualified for the final after defeating England in their third game of the series. They are the only side yet to lose, having won all three matches they have played.
The England win was largely defined by Shadab Khan, who struck his maiden ODI hundred. Shadab finished on 113 not out from 96 balls as the hosts successfully chased 242 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
He added an unbroken 89 runs for the tenth wicket with Haris Rauf, who was not out on 7. Pakistan completed the win by one wicket in the 48th over.
Pakistan had opened the tournament with a 37-run victory over Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium after scoring 305. A few days later, they beat England by 87 runs at the same ground.
