SA vs AUS 3rd Test: Jansen Joins Elite Bowlers List

Cape Town, October 28: The third Test between South Africa and Australia at Newlands has seen South African pacer Marco Jansen enter an elite group of bowlers. On day two, Jansen dismissed Matt Renshaw to reach 100 Test wickets, doing so in his 24th match.

With this achievement, Jansen has surpassed former South African pacer Peter Pollock on the national list. For South Africa, the quickest route to 100 Test wickets belongs to Vernon Philander, who got there in 19 matches. Dale Steyn finished second, reaching the mark in 20 Tests.

Jansen's landmark also places him high among the fastest bowlers in Test history by deliveries. He reached 100 wickets from 3,864 balls, which makes him the third-fastest to the milestone. That moved him past Pakistan's former bowler Waqar Younis, who required 3,976 balls. At the top is Dale Steyn, who took 3,631 balls to reach 100 wickets.

At tea on the second day, Australia were 191 for 4 in the first innings. Travis Head and Matt Renshaw gave the visitors a solid platform with a 58-run opening stand. Head scored 41 off 49 balls, hitting seven fours. Marnus Labuschagne failed to score and was dismissed without opening his account.

Renshaw then shared a 126-run stand for the third wicket with Cameron Green. Renshaw departed for 74. Green fell for 65 off 110 balls, dismissed by Jansen. Jansen and Simon Harmer took two wickets apiece for South Africa. South Africa had earlier been bowled out for 329 in their first innings.
