Rumesh Pathirage's 89.04m Throw Secures Diamond League Crown in Brussels

The King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels witnessed a historic performance on 6 September when Rumesh Pathirage launched the javelin 89.04 metres to clinch the Diamond League title. The Sri Lankan athlete out‑performed Poland's David Wegner (87.47m) and former Olympic gold medallist Keshorn Walcott (83.99m).

Pathirage praised the support from fans and acknowledged the difficult weather conditions, insisting that he felt capable of a longer throw. He pledged to continue pushing his limits and to break meeting records in future competitions.

His campaign this season was remarkable, with victories in four of five Diamond League events and throws exceeding 92 metres in both Rome and Zurich, securing his place among the world’s elite javelin throwers.
