Rs 17 Crore Prize Distribution Set for Mukhyamantri Trophy Winners

Tamil Nadu will distribute prizes worth Rs 17 crore to winners of the 'Mukhyamantri Trophy' competitions on Thursday, October 29. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will preside over the ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, which runs from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The same event will also felicitate Tamil Nadu's athletes who won medals at the Para Asian Games 2026 in Japan. Their inclusion places state champions and international medallists on one stage.

Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna said the Chief Minister would interact with the para-athletes and congratulate them. The honours for these athletes will run alongside the prize distribution to trophy winners.

The state's contingent in Japan won 15 medals, which included 3 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze. Of the 13 athletes sent to the Games, 9 secured medals, a strong outcome for the state's para-sports programme.

The 'Mukhyamantri Trophy' tournaments began on October 15 and are being played in 45 sports across the state. Close to 32,000 athletes are competing, underlining the breadth of the programme.

The government says the ceremony is meant to encourage sporting talent and acknowledge excellence, both at home and abroad. Participants in Japan will get the chance to meet the Chief Minister and be recognised for their role in the state's 15-medal haul.
