Rohit Sharma has achieved a monumental milestone, becoming the first Indian cricketer to amass over 1000 runs against Australia on Australian soil in One Day International (ODI) cricket. This historic feat was accomplished during the second ODI of the current series at the Adelaide Oval.
Needing just two runs to reach the coveted 1000-run mark before the match, the prolific opener swiftly secured the milestone early in the innings. This achievement underscores Sharma’s exceptional record and consistent performance against the formidable Australian team in their home conditions.
The Indian team faced early challenges in the second ODI, with captain Shubman Gill and star batter Virat Kohli departing for low scores. Despite the team’s initial struggles, Sharma’s personal record-breaking moment stood out.
India opted to bat first after Australia won the toss and chose to field. Skipper Shubman Gill expressed that his team would have preferred to bowl first as well, but were focused on setting a strong total. He also voiced hopes for uninterrupted play, contrasting with the previous match which experienced rain delays. The team fielded an unchanged eleven, aiming to level the series.
