Rohit scores 138 in third ODI, India fall short of 388-run target

The third One Day International at Lord’s on July 20 saw India lose by 27 runs, concluding the series at 1‑2 to England. Rohit Sharma anchored the innings with a dazzling 138, struck from 17 fours and five sixes, breaking his own eight‑year record of 137 runs made at Trent Bridge.

Rohit opened alongside Shubman Gill, and the duo accumulated a 147‑run opening partnership, with Gill contributing 77 runs. After Gill’s dismissal, Rohit forged a second‑wicket stand of 113 runs with captain Virat Kohli, who scored 74 off 60 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes.

England posted 388 runs, powered by Ben Duckett’s unbeaten 141 and Jacob Bethell’s 91. Joe Root added a swift 74 off 48 deliveries, and Jos Buttler slammed 41 in just 13 balls.

India’s chase stalled at 360 for 7. Ishan Kishan managed 14 runs, Shreyas Iyer was out for a duck, KL Rahul scored 12, and Akshar Patel contributed two runs before being dismissed.

Despite Rohit’s historic innings, the target proved too steep, leaving India on the losing side of the series.
