Rishikant Singh Receives State Tribute After 2026 Commonwealth Silver

Imphal, August 10 – The Manipur government, led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, awarded a state‑level tribute to Chanambam Rishikant Singh, who secured a silver medal in weightlifting at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The CM highlighted Singh’s lift of 264 kilograms in the men’s 71‑kg category, describing the achievement as a source of pride for both the state and the nation. He announced that the administration is reviewing policies to increase incentives for athletes who bring home medals from international platforms.

Khemchand Singh pointed out that many of Manipur’s top sportspersons hail from low‑income households, confronting financial constraints while training. He stressed that perseverance, rigorous training, and community support have been essential to their successes.

In his remarks, Rishikant Singh expressed heartfelt thanks for the encouragement received from the government and urged fellow athletes to focus on disciplined preparation rather than being deterred by costly dietary needs.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to fostering a robust sports ecosystem, stating that continued backing will help athletes overcome hardships and achieve higher accolades for Manipur and India.
