In a bid to sharpen India’s edge in precision sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) kicked off a dynamic four-day workshop on sports science for shooting and archery coaches at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. Organized by SAI’s dedicated Sports Science Division, this initiative is set to transform how coaches harness data and science for superior athlete outcomes.
Opening the event, SAI Director General Hari Ranjan Rao pledged full governmental backing for sports science, urging smart investments that yield measurable wins. ‘Especially in sports where seconds or millimeters decide fates, science must power athlete support,’ he remarked, pointing to its benefits in optimized training, injury prevention, and career longevity.
Expansion is on the horizon, with more SAI centers and enhanced systems in national camps and excellence hubs to democratize sports science across India.
Brigadier (Dr.) Bibhu Kalyan Nanda, the division’s head, detailed how collaborative workshops allow real-time application of scientific principles, refining techniques and slashing injury rates. This athlete-focused, coach-driven, science-supported framework promises lasting impact.
Drawing top talent from multiple NSNIS and NSSCs, plus NRAI experts, the program builds on prior sensitizations for various disciplines. Curriculum spans physiology to AI tools, including neurofeedback, wearables for hydration and nutrition tracking, sports psychology for emotional mastery, and yoga for recovery.
Participants gain practical skills in data analytics and visualization, merging old-school wisdom with tech innovations. The result? A unified front delivering elite-level preparation, positioning Indian athletes for global podiums.
