Record seventh crown for Australia as England falls short in final

The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup final at Lord’s concluded with Australia cruising to a seven‑wicket victory over England, securing an unprecedented seventh championship.

England, after electing to bat, posted a total of 150 runs for the loss of four wickets. The innings was anchored by a 25‑run stand between captain Net Saivar‑Brent and Danny Wyatt‑Hodge, followed by a similar partnership with Alice Capsi, which helped England recover from an early two‑wicket slump at seven runs.

Australia’s reply was steady. By the end of the 10.5‑over mark they were 70 for four. The game changed when Brent combined with Freya Camp, adding 80 runs off 55 balls. Brent’s unbeaten 58 featured five boundaries, while Camp contributed a quick 44, including a six and four fours.

England’s bowlers – Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Sophie Molinex and Annabel Sardelland – each managed a single wicket, but could not restrict the run rate.

In the chase, early wickets fell at 17 runs, with Georgia Vol dismissed shortly after. Beth Mooney then partnered with Faye Litchfield, forging a 100‑run stand over 67 balls that brought the target within reach. Litchfield was stranded on 48, just two runs short of a half‑century, after blasting two sixes and six fours.

Mooney, who remained unbeaten on 64, was ably supported by Alice Perry’s 13 runs. Host nation bowlers Charlotte Dean, Lauren Bell and Sophie Eccleson each claimed a wicket, but Australia crossed the line comfortably.

The triumph adds to Australia’s previous titles in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023, reinforcing their supremacy in women’s T20 cricket, while England’s lone championship remains from 2009.
