Record Alert: Mitchell Santner Tops New Zealand's T20 Charts
Mitchell Santner has become the most-capped T20 international cricketer in New Zealand's history. The skipper reached the milestone during the fifth T20 against India in Hamilton on Sunday.
This was Santner's 143rd T20 match for his country. It helped him pass Ish Sodhi, who had 142 appearances, and take the top position.
While Santner has claimed 151 wickets in T20 internationals, Sodhi still holds the bowling edge with 165 wickets.
Former fast bowler Tim Southee is the third-highest T20 appearance-maker for New Zealand, with 126 matches. He is followed by Martin Guptill, who has 122 matches, and Daryl Mitchell, who has 109.
Across world cricket, England's Jos Buttler and Ireland's Paul Stirling jointly hold the record for the most T20 internationals, with 163 matches each. Ireland's George Dockrell and India's Rohit Sharma are tied for second on 159 matches. Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi (155 matches) and England's Adil Rashid (153) complete the list of players with 150 or more appearances.
New Zealand's form in the five-match series against India has been poor. The team lost the first three games and suffered series defeat before the final match. A win in the fourth T20 against India offered some relief.
New Zealand now face a chase of 192 runs in the fifth T20. Whether they can achieve it is the question for the match.
