Ranjan Sodhi: A Career Built on Medals and Records
Ranjan Sodhi's name stands out in India's double trap shooting community. Known for his accuracy and composure, the Punjab shooter has earned a place among the country's most decorated marksmen.
Sodhi, born on October 23, 1979, in Firozpur, has consistently delivered results on the world stage. His journey includes multiple gold, silver and bronze medals across continental and global competitions.
The 2010 season marked a major turning point. Sodhi won two silver medals at the Commonwealth Games and a gold at the Asian Games. In 2011, he became the first Indian to retain a World Cup title, a rare accomplishment in the sport.
Sodhi's Asian Games performance in Guangzhou included gold in double trap and bronze in the double trap team event. He also topped the podium in double trap at the World Cup in Lonato, Italy, in 2010.
In 2011, he added silver at the World Cup in Beijing, China, and bronze in Maribor, Slovenia. He later won gold at the World Cup in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, on October 4 of the same year.
The silver medal in Beijing earned him a quota for the 2012 London Olympics, where he competed in double trap. Although he could not secure an Olympic medal, he finished 11th in qualification with a score of 134.
In the qualification round, Sodhi opened with 48 points and briefly shared the top position with three other shooters. He was unable to keep that level of performance throughout the event.
Sodhi's achievements have earned him national recognition. He has been awarded the Arjuna Award and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for his significant contribution to shooting.
