Raja Randhir Singh: India's Sports Icon Passes Away

India has lost one of its most respected sporting figures with the passing of Raja Randhir Singh at 79. The former Olympian and senior sports administrator breathed his last on Wednesday, leaving behind a legacy that spans five decades of dedicated service to Indian and Asian sports. Singh competed in five Olympic Games and achieved historic success by winning India’s first individual Asian Games gold in trap shooting in 1978. He later added a bronze and team silver at the 1982 Asian Games, cementing his place in Indian sporting history. The Olympic Council of Asia mourned the loss of its lifelong honorary president, noting his tireless efforts to promote Olympic ideals throughout the continent. IOA chief PT Usha described the loss as deeply personal, remembering his warmth and visionary leadership. Adille Sumariwalla, who competed alongside Singh at the 1980 Olympics, spoke of his enduring legacy both as an athlete and administrator. The National Rifle Association of India called him a legend whose contributions to shooting will remain unmatched. Hockey India saluted his pioneering role as the first Indian to head the Olympic Council of Asia. Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra paid tribute to his lifelong dedication, while the esports Federation of India and political leaders across states joined the chorus of condolences.
