Raina Says Rohit and Virat Will Deliver India's Third ODI World Cup

Mumbai, October 26: Former India player Suresh Raina has expressed strong belief in the abilities of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, suggesting that the two veterans could be the key to India's third ODI World Cup triumph if they play in the 2027 tournament.

At an event, Raina spoke to IANS and emphasised that Rohit and Virat are still vital members of the national side. According to him, India's prospects of lifting the trophy would be excellent if both players are part of the squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

History supports his optimism. India claimed their first ODI World Cup on June 25, 1983, when Kapil Dev led the side to victory over West Indies. Their second title came on April 2, 2011, under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who guided the team past Sri Lanka.

Raina noted that India has tasted success in ICC tournaments in recent years after waiting for a long time. Drawing on the memories of the 1983 and 2011 wins, he claimed that the team is capable of winning one more ODI World Cup.

With full conviction, Raina remarked, “Note this down on paper. Rohit and Virat are the ones who will bring the World Cup to India.”

The former cricketer, who has represented India in 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is, is currently focusing on family life following his retirement. He enjoys playing cricket with his six-year-old son. Reflecting on his personal life, Raina said he is enjoying every moment with his children and wife, and he loves to travel. He also trains his son on the terrace and at practice sessions. Raina pointed out that his son already practises with a leather ball, which can cause serious injuries, as his own fingers were broken by it. He urged parents to encourage outdoor games instead of screen time.
