Glasgow, 29 July – The Commonwealth Games 2026 witnessed another Indian boxing triumph as Narendra fought past Samoa’s Michael Seco in a tightly fought quarterfinal. The bout, contested in the heavyweight (90 kg+) division, concluded with a 3‑2 split decision, delivering India a guaranteed bronze medal.

The Indian boxer stumbled in the opening round, being put behind on a single judge’s card. However, he rallied impressively, adapting his strategy, landing cleaner shots, and staying composed under pressure. Three judges ultimately recorded a 28‑27 score for Narendra, while two sided with Seco.

By advancing to the semifinals, Narendra joins a growing cohort of Indian pugilists who have already secured a place in the last four, making the nation’s boxing contingent one of the strongest at these Games. The next challenge will be a semifinal bout that determines whether he competes for gold or settles for bronze, the latter already assured by the competition’s format.

Narendra’s achievement follows earlier successes by teammates such as Preeti (54 kg), Priya (60 kg women), Sakshi (51 kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (51 kg), and Sachin Sivach (60 kg men), all of whom have booked semifinal spots.
