PV Sindhu Focuses on Fitness and Scoring Shift Ahead of Tour Finals

With her spot firmly locked at the BWF World Tour Finals, PV Sindhu has entered the December tournament on a high note. The shuttlecoser deliberately timed her rest period to align with this championship event. Momentum has been on her side lately, highlighted by championship victories at the Japan Open Super 750 and the German Hylo Open. It is a standout season for the former world champion, as she captures numerous tour titles for the first time since 2022.

Her run in Saarbrucken saw her reach the French Open final, where she faced the daunting task of meeting the reigning Olympic gold medallist and top-ranked Korean shuttler, An Se-young. Although she lost that clash, Sindhu quickly adjusted her calendar. In the wake of her Hylo Open triumph, she opted to sit out the Korea Open and Japan Masters.

During a press briefing hosted by the national federation, she clarified that her decision to step back was deeply calculated. "My initial plan was to compete throughout the entire circuit. However, I realized I had to listen to my body," she said. "Returning to recover and staying in optimal condition for the upcoming events was the only logical path. It was a necessary decision to safeguard my performance."

Reflecting on her current stage of life, Sindhu shared her philosophy on longevity. "Age is just a number, even if I am no longer in my youth. I truly feel that 31 mirrors the energy of 21, so prioritizing recovery and physical care is non-negotiable."

She also weighed in on the impending shift to a 3x15 point system, which comes into effect on January 4, 2027. The veteran acknowledged that moving away from the long-standing 21-point format will demand immediate adaptation. Quick reflexes and disciplined point conservation will be paramount.

"Every player will have to recalibrate their game for 15-point matches," Sindhu remarked. "Our preparation has already shifted to accommodate this new rhythm. While the adjustment period varies for each athlete, remaining fiercely alert from the opening serve is crucial. You must protect easy points relentlessly, especially before the first set concludes, to avoid falling behind early."
