Punjab Boosts Sports Infrastructure with ₹9.5 Cr Olympic‑Level Pool

Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann officially opened a world‑class, Olympic‑grade swimming pool in Sangrur on June 30, investing INR 9.50 crore in the project. The pool conforms to international standards, measuring 50 m × 21 m, with a depth ranging from 4.5 ft to 7.5 ft and a holding capacity of 250,000 litres.

The inauguration underscores the state’s dramatic increase in sports funding—from less than INR 200 crore under previous administrations to a robust INR 1,790 crore today. Alongside the pool, Punjab has recently secured the Asian Hockey Championship trophy and is preparing to launch premier leagues for cricket and hockey.

Athletes will benefit from a suite of amenities, including modern showers, separate changing rooms, coach‑only chambers, and dedicated storage. An advanced gym and a mini‑pool for children under seven further promote comprehensive training. The pool’s construction utilizes laminated PVC and stainless‑steel panels, while a European‑standard filtration and disinfection system guarantees clean water throughout.

Mann called on parents in Sangrur and nearby areas to inspire their children to engage in sports, assuring that the government will maintain consistent funding and facility upgrades. He described the new pool as a “nursery” for future Olympians, marking a significant stride toward positioning Punjab as the nation’s number‑one sporting state.
