Premier League Roundup: Arsenal Top, United and Forest Struggle
Arsenal are the new leaders of the Premier League after beating Liverpool 1-0, courtesy of a second-half-free first-half strike. Kai Havertz scored in the 16th minute, latching onto a precise Declan Rice pass to settle a tight contest.
Liverpool had more than 15 shots in the remaining minutes but could not find a way past Arsenal's disciplined defence. The result moves Arsenal clear at the top.
Manchester City slipped to a second successive defeat, losing 1-0 at home to Brighton. Mistakes in defence proved costly, as Matheus Nunes's poor clearance gave Yasin Ayari the opportunity to score in the 11th minute.
City remain second, three points behind Arsenal.
Michael Carrick's difficult spell at Manchester United continued with a 2-0 loss to Chelsea. United were competitive in the first half, yet Morgan Rogers's excellent individual goal in the 50th minute gave Chelsea the advantage.
Lisandro Martinez's second yellow card, and the penalty that followed, ended his evening early. Cole Palmer converted the penalty in the 64th minute to seal victory for Chelsea. It is United's longest winless run since 1988.
Nottingham Forest's struggles also deepened after a 2-0 defeat at Brentford. Nikola Milenkovic's own goal from a low cross by Dango Ouattara opened the scoring, before Igor Thiago doubled the advantage in the 76th minute from Jaden Anthony's pass.
Despite the setback, Oliver Glasner was defiant. 'Nobody needs to feel sorry for Oliver Glasner,' he said. 'If I wanted, I could start working somewhere else within two weeks.' Forest are second from bottom.
Sunderland remain bottom after a 3-1 defeat to Coventry City. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Taiyo Awoniyi and Jack Rudoni all scored, and Enzo Le Fee's penalty in the 67th minute was merely a consolation.
Bournemouth beat Leeds United 2-0 at home. Evanilson's first-half goal was followed by a late strike from Amine Adli in stoppage time.
Tottenham defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 at home, with Archie Gray and Jan Paul van Hecke on target. Palace were reduced to ten men when Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent off in the 13th minute for a dangerous tackle.
Aston Villa led through Nicolas Jackson's 39th-minute goal, but a Zion Suzuki own goal allowed Fulham to salvage a point at Villa Park.
Hull City and Ipswich Town drew 2-2, extending Hull's unbeaten home record this season.
