Poonch district police made headlines by launching the Police Shaheed Volleyball Tournament, a vibrant event dedicated to remembering martyred officers. The grand finale saw Manjeet Singh Memorial Volleyball Club triumph over Shaheed Mumtaz Memorial Club with a decisive 3-0 scoreline on Tuesday.
District SSP Shafqat Hussain presented trophies and medals, inspiring players with visions of international glory. In his address, he celebrated Poonch’s sporting legacy. ‘Countless kids from here have excelled nationally and abroad. Thanks to our youth for keeping sports alive,’ he remarked.
He showered praise on both finalist teams. ‘Congratulations to the victorious Manjeet Singh Memorial Club. The runners-up from Shaheed Mumtaz Memorial Club displayed remarkable tenacity against tough opponents. I foresee them donning national colors soon.’
Mohammad Tariq Khan, the event’s chief organizer, told reporters that the tournament serves as a memorial and a social crusade. ‘We’re paying homage to our brave shaheeds via volleyball. It’s also a call to youth: shun drugs, hit the fields, and build a better society.’
Volleyball enthusiast Ayaz Ahmad Madni hailed the police’s pioneering role. ‘As a border district, we lack sponsors, making such events scarce. This tournament empowers youth to stay drug-free and prove their mettle. Every young person should participate to honor their district.’
This initiative underscores the police’s commitment to youth development, blending tribute with empowerment in Poonch’s challenging terrain.
