Wrestlers Aman Sharawat and Deepak Poonia praised by PM after medal haul at Asian Games

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media on Saturday to commend Indian wrestlers for their stellar performance at the 2026 Asian Games. Aman Sharawat secured a gold medal in the men’s 57 kg freestyle event, delivering India’s first gold in that category and showcasing a remarkable rise from a bronze finish at the previous Games.

Modi highlighted Sharawat’s “spectacular victory” and praised his perseverance and dedication. The Prime Minister also recognized Deepak Poonia, who earned a bronze medal in the men’s 97 kg freestyle division, marking India’s return to the podium in this weight class after a six‑decade hiatus.

Both athletes were celebrated alongside the men’s hockey team’s gold, the historic golds won by golfer Pranavi Urse and archer Kumkum Mohan, and the overall wave of Indian success that has qualified the nation for the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics.
