Plimmer and Green's Partnership Sets NZ Target, Australia Prevails
The first women’s T20 International between Australia and New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on 18 October saw a high‑scoring encounter. New Zealand posted 163 runs, thanks largely to a record partnership between Georgia Plimmer and Maddie Green. After early wickets fell – Flora Davison out for one and captain Amelia Kerr dismissed for nine – the pair steadied the innings. Plimmer accumulated 85 runs from 68 balls, striking ten fours and a six, while Green contributed an unbeaten 56 from 37 deliveries, with six fours and a six. Their 127‑run stand for the third wicket lasted 80 balls and formed the backbone of the NZ total.
Australia’s chase was anchored by Beth Mooney’s 38 off 25 balls and Alissa Perkins’ rapid 52 off 30 balls, which contained nine fours. Despite losing eight wickets, the Australian side reached the target in 18.5 overs, winning by two wickets. Ashleigh Gardner added 23 runs off 17 balls, while other batters struggled to build partnerships after Perkins’ dismissal.
New Zealand’s bowling attack, led by Jess Kerr’s three wickets, could not stop the late surge, and the side fell short by a narrow margin.
