Court dismisses Phogat’s challenge to Asian Games selection trial exclusion
The Delhi High Court dismissed Vinesh Phogat’s petition that sought to overturn her removal from the Asian Games 2026 selection trials. Justice Swarn Kant Sharma ruled that the petition had become moot after the federation’s earlier orders permitted Phogat to compete in the trials. The court therefore declined to entertain the challenge and ordered the Wrestling Federation of India to proceed with its disciplinary process.
In its order, the court clarified that any further objections to the selection criteria must be raised through a distinct legal remedy. Phogat’s defeat in the semi‑final of the 53‑kg category against Meenakshi Goyal, where she lost 4‑6, confirmed that she will not be part of the Indian contingent for the Nagoya‑Aichi 2026 Asian Games.
