Pakistan Cricket Board Halts Player Exports for Abu Dhabi T10
The commencement of the Abu Dhabi T10 League is clouded by an administrative standoff between tournament management and the Pakistan Cricket Board. The board has effectively frozen player clearances, creating a bottleneck for franchise squads.
The core of the dispute involves a $10,000 per-player fee demanded by the PCB as a condition for issuing No Objection Certificates. This directive was communicated shortly after the September 30 player draft, leaving organizers with minimal time to adapt before the November 7 tournament start. Franchise owners are now weighing the financial implications of compliance against the need to retain drafted talent.
Five out of six teams successfully added 16 Pakistani players to their rosters during the draft process. The sudden policy enforcement has thrown squad preparations into uncertainty. While individual players have expressed willingness to cover the fee personally, the lack of a unified framework has stalled negotiations.
This incident reflects the PCB's broader strategy regarding overseas cricket engagements. The board previously intervened in player exports for tournaments like the Nepal Premier League, significantly curbing cross-border participation. Historically, these measures targeted competitive leagues outside the domestic ecosystem, while the Pakistan Super League maintained its protected status.
Administrative updates have recently relaxed previous numerical caps on league participation. The revised guidelines now permit unlimited T20 specialist appearances, provided that players prioritize international call-ups without delay. This policy shift aims to balance franchise cricket opportunities with national service obligations.
The affected roster selections highlight the widespread impact of the delay. Arabian Aces hold Salman Irshad. Emirates Eagles secured Aaqib Javed, Hasan Naveed, and Ali Raza. Royal Desert Champions drafted Nasim Shah. The UAE Bulls roster includes Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Khawaja Nafees, Khushdil Shah, Azam Khan, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. United Tigers added Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Fahim Ashraf, Sufian Moqim, and Abbas Afridi to their squad.
