Pakistan's Gul Farooza penalised after disputing umpire call

During the group stage of the 2026 Women's Asia Cup, Pakistan's top‑order batter Gul Farooza was disciplined by the International Cricket Council for openly contesting an umpire's decision. The incident occurred in the match against Hong Kong held in Dubai, where Farooza was given out in the fifth over.

The dismissal came when Farooza tried to sweep a left‑arm spinner's delivery, missed, and the ball hit the pad in front of the stumps. The on‑field umpire signalled out, and with no review mechanism available, the decision stood. Farooza, however, reacted by pointing her bat toward the umpire and shouting that an edge had been caught, an act the ICC deemed a violation of its conduct code.

As a result, the ICC levied a fine equal to ten percent of her match fee and recorded a demerit point on her disciplinary file. This marks the second infraction for Farooza within the past two years, bringing her total demerit points to two. The penalty follows a similar sanction imposed earlier on Pakistan captain Fatima Sana for her conduct in the India match.
