Pakistan suffer fifth‑lowest Test total as West Indies dominate

The first Test of the series in New Delhi saw the West Indies overturn Pakistan by a margin of 90 runs. After a solid first‑innings total of 311 – built on Shai Hope’s 92 and Keemo Paul’s 84 – the Caribbean side set Pakistan a target of 211. The Pakistani lineup collapsed to 120 all out.

For the first time in Test annals, all 20 wickets fell to fast bowlers. Justin Greaves grabbed five wickets in the opening innings, and Jayden Seales matched the haul in the second, taking five for just 20 runs in 14.2 overs. Kemar Roach and Greaves each added two more wickets across the two innings.

Pakistan’s 120 was their fifth‑lowest score in Test history and the sixth instance where every wicket was taken by pace. The loss also marked the team’s eighth straight defeat on foreign soil since 2023.

The batting disaster began with openers Azan Awais and Imam‑ul‑Haq each making only three runs. Salman Aga was dismissed on his first ball by Seales. Wicket‑keeper Mohammad Rizwan contributed 11 runs off 28 balls, and Amir Jamal failed to score from 12 deliveries.

The middle and lower order added minimal runs – Ali Usman (2), Shan Masood (3), Khurram Shahzad (4) and Mohammad Ali a duck. Captain Babar Azam carried his bat with an unbeaten 58 from 107 balls, hitting nine fours, but he stood alone without any meaningful partnerships.

West Indies now celebrate their second victory in the past eleven Tests, while Pakistan’s overseas slump deepens.
