Organisers reaffirm schedule for 2027 Asian Cup amid regional security concerns
The AFC Asian Cup 2027, to be staged in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khor, will proceed from 7 January to 5 February as originally planned, despite recent security incidents in the region. The local organising committee released a statement confirming that all operational and infrastructural milestones are being met on the approved timeline.
The tragic attack on King Khalid International Airport on 10 October, which resulted in 12 fatalities and more than 300 injuries, has not disrupted the tournament’s preparation work. The Houthis, a Yemen‑based group with Iranian ties, claimed responsibility for the assault.
Committee officials highlighted ongoing work on stadium upgrades, transportation links and media facilities, emphasizing the goal of delivering a premier football event that unites Asian nations. The LOC remains dedicated to securing the necessary resources to reflect Saudi Arabia’s aspirations as a world‑class host.
