Opposition Leaders Question Symbolism of Switching India Hockey Kit to Saffron

Members of the Samajwadi Party and other opposition groups have taken to the floor to label the proposed saffron kit as a political stunt. MP Pushpendra Saroj argued that the blue jersey is deeply ingrained in the nation’s sporting psyche, with chants of “Bleed Blue” echoing in stadiums across the country. He warned that politicising team colours risks creating unnecessary controversy and could undermine the athletes’ focus. Senior SP leader Udayvir Singh echoed the sentiment, calling for the Hockey India Federation to disclose the genuine reasons for the change, rather than letting it become a flashpoint for partisan debate.
