From Olympic Relay to Commonwealth Stage: Tamilrasan’s 2024‑25 Campaign
New Delhi, July 28 – Santosh Kumar Tamilrasan’s 2024‑25 season has been a narrative of progression, moving from an Olympic relay appearance to a personal quest for Commonwealth success.
The hurdler was part of India’s 4 × 400 m relay team at the Paris 2024 Olympics, an exposure that sharpened his race‑craft and mental toughness. Building on that experience, he turned his attention to the 400 m hurdles, where he earned a bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championships and contributed to a gold‑medal finish in the mixed 4 × 400 m relay.
“This journey has been about translating Olympic learning into individual performance,” Tamilrasan explained. “Competing against the world’s best in the relay taught me how to handle pressure, and now I want to bring that composure to my own event at the Commonwealth Games.”
His season’s personal best of 49.06 seconds, set during the Indian Athletics Series in Tiruvananthapuram, reflects a consistent upward trajectory. He credits disciplined training, strategic race planning and the supportive environment at the Inspire Institute of Sport for these gains.
“At Inspire, every element – from technical drills to strength work, recovery and sports science – is fine‑tuned. The incremental improvements we achieve there are what make the difference on race day,” he said.
Looking forward, Tamilrasan emphasizes the need to stay process‑focused. “Each championship is a fresh start. My goal is to keep improving, because that is the only way to stay competitive with the world’s elite.”
He concluded with a note of patriotic pride: “Wearing the Indian colours on the Commonwealth stage is a privilege. I intend to leave everything on the track and give the nation a reason to celebrate.”
