NZ Lose Despite 225 as Phillips Hails Thrilling India T20 Clash

New Zealand's all-rounder Glenn Phillips has called the opening T20 against India an excellent game of cricket, even though his side fell short after posting 225 runs.

In Christchurch, Phillips said that tight finishes help encourage spectators to return to stadiums and watch the sport live. He made the comments ahead of the second T20 between the two sides.

'Close matches are fantastic,' Phillips said. 'They help people come back to the grounds and enjoy cricket. It's brilliant for the game.'

T20 fixtures are arriving at a rapid pace. The first encounter took place on Thursday, and the second was held on Saturday, leaving fewer than 48 hours between the two contests.

Phillips scored 82 not out from 40 balls in the first match. He explained that recovery was the main priority during the break. The weather in Christchurch had been pleasant, he noted, and the squad had used the time well.

'Some of the guys went away, a few played golf, and we tried to keep our minds away from the game. Then we came back and prepared for the second T20,' he said.

Phillips also shared that he had taken a few friends on a flight to Newton Peak and the Southern Alps. 'Going there was great. It cleared my head and gave me something I enjoy doing. I came back, had a nice evening, and rested up for today,' he added.

In the closing delivery of New Zealand's innings, Phillips started batting left-handed against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He hit a four off the last ball, taking the Kiwis to 225/4.

He revealed that he trains in left-handed batting during IPL seasons and applies those lessons in games. 'I think it's a bit of a slip not using that chance to upskill,' Phillips said.
