No Goals at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as Blasters Meet Mumbai City
Kerala Blasters FC and Mumbai City FC could not be separated in a goalless draw during the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 on Sunday night. The match, played in Kochi, saw both teams commit to attacking football despite the tension of the occasion, but neither side managed to find the net.
The Blasters arrived at the fixture looking to recover from a 4-1 defeat against Northeast United FC. Mumbai City, meanwhile, came into the game after drawing 1-1 with Punjab FC. The stalemate meant both clubs had to settle for a point apiece.
The first chance of note came in the 11th minute at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, when Sanan delivered a series of dangerous crosses that unsettled the Mumbai City defence. Hormipam Ruivah was one of the players who reached a cross in the chaos of the six-yard box, but his shot cannoned into the side netting. Kerala Blasters continued to dominate possession and pressed for the opening goal. Mumbai City, however, found it difficult to build passing moves early on and struggled to break into the Blasters' defensive shape.
The Islanders then regained their grip on the game. They recovered possession and began to find their rhythm. In the 23rd minute, Mumbai City came within a whisker of their first open-play goal of the season. Mohammed Ajsal gathered a long pass from Carlos Delgado, carried the ball into the box and crossed for Naoufal at the six-yard area. Naoufal struck a forceful shot with his right foot, but Amrinder Singh pulled off an excellent save to keep the scores level.
Mumbai City made their first change in the 39th minute, introducing Lalnuntluanga Bawitlung in place of Leandro Otormin. Sanan had a chance to end the deadlock in first-half stoppage time. In the 45+2nd minute, he showed fine skill with a stepover to beat his defender and then fired a left-footed shot at goal, but the effort narrowly missed. The first half ended without a goal as both teams battled for the decisive breakthrough.
In the 46th minute, Kerala Blasters made a change at the restart, bringing on Srikuttan MS for Korou Singh Thingujam. Six minutes later, Mumbai City came close to taking the lead when Valpuia's free kick led to Amrinder rushing out of his area to clear. The ball fell to Akash, whose header hit the goalpost, allowing the Blasters to avoid a serious setback.
Kerala Blasters made two substitutions in the 60th minute, with Abinas Yesudasan and Andre Green replacing Sanan and Momo Yansane. In the 71st minute, Naoufal drifted into space on the wing and tried a long-range right-footed effort, which Amrinder saved. The rebound went to Ajsal, but his shot flew over the crossbar. The Blasters kept delivering crosses and came close in the final minutes, but could not create a chance to win the match.
In the 85th minute, Mumbai City replaced Ajsal with Hridya Jain. In stoppage time, Kerala Blasters introduced Vibin Mohanan for Adrian Luna. Mumbai City also made two changes, with Supratim Das and Yuvraj Kadam coming on for Puipuia and Farukh Choudhary. The Blasters continued to load the box with crosses, but the Mumbai City defence remained solid. The match ended goalless, and both sides earned one point.
