New Leadership Aims to Elevate Disabled and Wheelchair Cricket in India

The Disabled Cricket Control Board of India (DCCBI) announced that former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi will serve as its chairperson, a move expected to boost the sport’s growth. The announcement came at a high‑profile award ceremony in Agra on August 13.

Lekhi addressed players and officials, assuring them of her commitment to honesty, hard work and the pursuit of excellence. She invoked the example of Lord Rama to underline the importance of duty and perseverance for athletes.

She lauded the dedication, resilience and talent of disabled cricketers, describing them as a source of pride for the nation. Lekhi called for broader societal support to provide these athletes with opportunities, respect and a secure future.

Board president Mukesh Kanchan welcomed her as a guiding force, while Dr. Bhagwan Talware, chair of the wheelchair unit, expressed confidence that Lekhi’s experience and social‑service background will bring fresh direction and stability to Indian disabled cricket.
