New International‑Size Aquatic Centre Boosts Punjab’s Sports Infrastructure

Punjab’s sports landscape received a major upgrade on 30 June when Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated an Olympic‑grade swimming pool in Sangrur. The pool, costing ₹9.50 crore, measures 50 m by 21 m with a variable depth of 4.5‑7.5 ft and a water holding capacity of 250,000 litres. It is equipped with contemporary showers, changing rooms, a coach’s suite, a storage facility and a modern gym for strength training. A separate children’s pool is available for swimmers under seven. The structure employs Mirtha Renovection and Classic Modular System technology, laminated PVC and stainless‑steel panels, and a filtration system that meets European quality norms. Mann said the centre will serve as a nursery for future champions and pointed out that the state’s sports allocation has risen dramatically to ₹1,790 crore, compared with sub‑₹200 crore budgets of previous regimes.
