Namibia Captain Erasmus Hits Unbeaten 156 Against Ireland
Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus etched his name into the country's cricket history with an unbeaten 156 in the second one-day international against Ireland. The match was played at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on October 24.
His innings of 156 not out came off 125 balls at a strike rate of 124, featuring 14 fours and 4 sixes. The knock is now the highest ODI score by a Namibian batter, going past the 136 that Jean-Pierre Kotze made against the United States in 2019.
Namibia lost early wickets, with Lauren Steenkamp out for a duck and Michael van Lingen dismissed for 22 off 31 balls. At 49 for 2, Erasmus stepped in to anchor the innings and rebuild momentum.
His 117-run third-wicket stand with Jan Frylinck was the foundation of the innings. Frylinck scored 76 off 90 balls, including six fours and two sixes, before he was dismissed.
Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton scored 15 and Jan Green made 3 as Namibia tried to maintain pressure. Alexander Volschenk added 30 off 20 balls, and his partnership of 92 with Erasmus for the fifth wicket came in just 40 balls.
Namibia finished on 321 for 6 in 50 overs. Gavin Hoey was Ireland's most effective bowler, picking up 3 wickets for 53 runs in his 10 overs.
