Mohun Bagan Beat Chennaiyin FC 1-0 in Tight ISL Encounter
Mohun Bagan Super Giant secured a narrow 1-0 win over Chennaiyin FC on Monday, with Manvir Singh's goal in the 85th minute deciding a tense Indian Super League 2026-27 fixture. The result gave the home team three points in front of their own fans.
The game took place at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Both teams had numerous opportunities, but goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz and defender Vishal Kaith were outstanding, repeatedly denying attackers and keeping the match goalless for most of its duration.
Chennaiyin FC opened with energy, and Nikola Stojanovic was unlucky when his shot struck the crossbar. Brison Fernandes and Irfan Yadwad also came close, but neither could convert.
Mohun Bagan responded with their own chances. Samir Dzelilovic's effort was saved by Nawaz, and Alberto Rodriguez missed narrowly after a corner. At the other end, Kaith thwarted Yadwad and Madih Talal, while Nawaz stopped shots from Lee Irwin and Dejan Drazic. The first half ended without a goal.
In the second half, Mohun Bagan made a change by introducing Sahal Abdul Samad for Lalianzuala Chhangte, and Anirudh Thapa replaced Dzelilovic. Chennaiyin continued to press, and Kaith made saves against Yadwad and Raymond. Namgyal Bhutia and Fernandes both failed to hit the target with their attempts.
Fernandes was later replaced by Bryce Miranda for Chennaiyin, and Rahul Bheke made way for Subhashish Bose at Mohun Bagan. Chennaiyin then brought on Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu and S. Prakash Eswaran.
The match remained evenly poised. Nawaz denied Irwin and Manvir, while Chennaiyin posed a threat on the counter. Stojanovic hit the crossbar again after a strike set up by Prakash Eswaran, and Kaith produced another strong save to stop a Chennaiyin midfielder.
In the closing minutes, Mohun Bagan replaced Deepak Tangri and Drazic with Liston Colaco and Abhishek Suryavanshi. The substitutions had an immediate effect. Colaco delivered a cross into the box, and Manvir controlled it on his chest before scoring at close range.
The Mariners held their lead to the end, taking home all three points in a closely contested encounter.
