Minister highlights role of sports reporters in boosting athlete recognition
Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya used World Sports Journalist Day to draw attention to the pivotal role of sports journalists in elevating athletes’ profiles. In a message posted on his X account, he praised the media for going beyond basic match coverage, emphasizing their contribution to narrating athletes’ journeys, uncovering new talent and encouraging youngsters to engage with sports.
"Your hard work, dedication and ethical reporting continuously reinforce the Indian sporting system," the minister wrote, extending warm wishes to all sports journalists.
Mandaviya, who frequently visits sports events to boost morale, highlighted his involvement in the government’s "Sunday of Cycle" initiative, aimed at fostering nationwide fitness awareness. He also recalled honoring the historic bronze‑winning volleyball squad in Gujarat, noting that such achievements should spark higher aspirations and responsibilities for future performances.
The minister’s earlier tweets from the 65th National Inter‑State Championship in Bhubaneswar praised athlete Suresh Anil Kushare’s national record, describing it as a significant stride for Indian athletics and reaffirming the government’s commitment to provide the necessary infrastructure and support for athletes to excel globally.
