MI Confirms Exit of Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey, Karl Hopkinson
Mumbai Indians have confirmed that Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey and Karl Hopkinson are no longer part of the franchise's coaching setup. The announcement, made on Thursday, comes as the five-time IPL champions continue to make changes to their coaching staff ahead of IPL 2027.
In an official statement on its website, the franchise said the three will step away from their roles with the men's team. Mumbai Indians thanked them for their commitment, contribution and service.
The franchise paid special tribute to Malinga, describing him as one of the most iconic figures in its history. He was a central figure in the bowling attack and helped the team win four IPL titles and the 2011 Champions League T20. His return as a mentor and coach was also highlighted. MI said his passion and competitive spirit inspired several generations of players, and that his legacy will always remain part of the franchise.
Mhambrey was also recognised for his long association with Mumbai Indians. He served the franchise from 2010 to 2017 and again after returning in 2024. The team praised his experience, dedication and deep understanding of the MI culture, along with his work in developing the side's bowlers.
Hopkinson, who joined before the 2025 season, was lauded for bringing valuable international experience from his time with the England men's team. As fielding coach, his professionalism and expertise were seen as key to improving the team's fielding standards.
Mumbai Indians said the memories and relationships created with Lasith, Paras and Karl will remain part of its journey, and wished each of them well for the future.
Malinga and Mhambrey were bowling coaches, while Hopkinson held the position of fielding coach.
