Metro Bank One‑Day Cup: Hampshire Secures IPL Talent Ashutosh Sharma

Hampshire County Cricket Club has officially announced the signing of Indian all‑rounder Ashutosh Sharma for the upcoming Metro Bank One‑Day Cup. The 27‑year‑old, who currently represents Delhi Capitals in the IPL, was added to the English side’s roster on Monday.

Cricket director Giles White expressed confidence in Sharma’s ability to make an immediate impact. "His recent IPL outings for Delhi Capitals have shown a temperament suited for the pressures of limited‑overs cricket," White said, adding that Hampshire aims to finish higher than last season.

Sharma’s IPL experience includes a stint with Punjab Kings in 2024, where he scored 189 runs in 11 matches at an average of 27, registering a half‑century. He then spent two seasons with Delhi Capitals, posting 204 runs at 29.14 in his debut season and 171 runs at 34.20 in the following year, after being bought for INR 3.80 crore ahead of the 2025 edition.

On the domestic front, Sharma has a prolific record. In the 2023 Sayyed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, playing for Railways, he struck a fifty off just 11 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. His first‑class tally stands at 370 runs from eight matches at an average of 28.46, featuring one hundred and two fifties. He has also contributed 458 runs in 21 List‑A games at 24.10, and 1,277 runs in 62 T20 matches at 29.69, including nine half‑centuries.

Having launched his senior career with Madhya Pradesh in 2017, Sharma now represents Railways and hopes his all‑round capabilities will strengthen Hampshire’s campaign in the One‑Day Cup.
