In a significant development for Australian women’s cricket, Meggan Schutt has declared that the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be her final ICC tournament. The experienced fast bowler, who began her international journey in 2012, shared the news during an interview with AAP on Monday. Over her career, Schutt has claimed 9 Test wickets, 148 ODI wickets, and 152 T20I scalps, establishing herself as one of Australia’s premier pace options. Schutt spoke candidly about the pain of previous World Cup defeats and her determination to win this edition. She highlighted her competitive drive and the responsibility she feels toward younger teammates who have yet to lift the trophy. Although she has not set a firm retirement date, Schutt noted that the relentless international schedule leaves little room for extended planning, and she intends to step aside once she can no longer contribute at the highest level. The Australian team will open its campaign against South Africa on 13 June in Manchester, following warm-up fixtures against South Africa, England, and West Indies. With Schutt’s retirement looming, the squad carries added motivation to secure another title before transitioning to a new era.
