Mayulu and Godts Fire PSG Past Lyon 2-0
Paris Saint-Germain produced a second-half display to beat Olympique Lyonnais 2-0 at the Parc des Princes on October 27. Senny Mayulu and Mika Godts scored the goals that gave PSG their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 victory and lifted them to the top of the league table.
PSG began with control and purpose. Ferran Torres led the early attacks, but his shot was saved by Lyon goalkeeper Dominik Greif in the 22nd minute. Lyon sat deep, absorbing pressure as the capital club looked the sharper side.
Lyon's best spell came around the half-hour mark. Julian Duranville tested Matvey Safonov in the 31st minute, and the PSG goalkeeper made a strong save. Two minutes later, Safonov had to be alert again to stop a shot from Zaccharie Athekame. The first half was physical and competitive. Magnes Akliouche almost found the net in the 40th minute, but the chance was not converted and the match remained goalless at half-time.
The second half opened with PSG pushing forward. In the 53rd minute, Joao Neves unleashed an acrobatic overhead kick after a pass from Achraf Hakimi, but the ball flew over the goal. In the 57th minute, Torres had another chance from the right side of the box, but Greif kept it out, keeping Lyon alive for a long period.
The deadlock was broken in the 72nd minute. Senny Mayulu struck a stunning shot from the edge of the box, sending the Parc des Princes into celebration. Luis Enrique's tactical changes proved decisive. PSG maintained the pressure, and in the 84th minute Mika Godts cut inside from the left and produced a clinical finish to make it 2-0.
The victory was PSG's eighth straight win in all competitions. With five consecutive league victories, the Parisian club now sit first in the Ligue 1 standings.
