Manenti’s stellar T20 World Cup showing earns BBL contract

The impressive displays of Italy’s Ben Manenti at the February T20 World Cup have translated into a lucrative BBL commitment with the Melbourne Renegades. The 29‑year‑old off‑spinner, who also wields the bat with power, topped Italy’s run‑scoring chart with 138 runs in three games and added five wickets to his name.

His explosive innings of 60 off 25 balls against England at Eden Gardens featured six sixes and four fours, while a rapid 50‑run blitz versus Scotland further highlighted his ability to dominate at the top of the order. Manenti’s all‑round effort was a key factor in Italy’s maiden World Cup appearance.

The all‑rounder’s domestic résumé includes spells with the Sydney Sixers, Adelaide Strikers and a season in the European T20 Premier League with Rotterdam Dockers. In Australia’s Sheffield Shield he captained South Australia as a stand‑in, posting a 112‑ball century and a total of 128 runs that helped his side pass 500 runs for the first time in the match.

Renegades head coach Luke Ronchi lauded the Italian’s recent form, describing him as a “highly competitive player who provides flexibility with bat and ball and brings the right mindset to our environment.” Manenti will join a spin contingent comprising Caleb Stö, Michael Archer and New Zealand all‑rounder Michael Bracewell, while the batting line‑up is reinforced by the addition of England’s Johnny Bairstow ahead of the season opener on 12 December against the Perth Scorchers.
