London Clinic Treats Indian Athlete’s Ankle Injury from Asian Games
Murli Srivankshar, India’s top long‑jump competitor, underwent a minor ankle operation in London on Wednesday. The injury was inflicted during the Asian Games final in Nagoya on September 28, when the athlete slipped on a rain‑soaked take‑off board and strained the ligaments of his right ankle.
The 27‑year‑old confirmed the surgery on Instagram, posting photographs with Dr. Peter D’Hughe at Fortius Clinic. He explained that the operation was essential to stabilise the joint before his planned participation in the 2027 World Championships in Beijing and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Despite the mishap, Srivankshar secured a silver medal with an 8.07‑metre leap, while China’s Shi Yuhau took gold at 8.17 m and Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov claimed bronze with 8.06 m.
The Indian government has announced full financial support for the surgery, post‑operative care and rehabilitation, ensuring the athlete receives the best possible medical attention during his comeback.
