From Spin Maestro to Coach: Kumble’s Journey After Retirement
Retirement did not signal the end of Anil Kumble’s involvement in cricket. After ending his playing career in 2008, he turned his focus to nurturing the next generation. Kumble took on the role of head coach for the Indian national side, applying his tactical insight and deep understanding of spin to the team’s preparation.
Beyond coaching, he has been a regular voice in cricket commentary, sharing analysis on domestic and international matches. He also participates in cricket workshops, mentorship programmes and the Indian Premier League as a senior advisor. His extensive experience – 619 Test wickets, 337 ODI wickets and a record of 14‑3‑6 across his captaincy tenure – continues to inspire young bowlers.
Kumble’s contributions have been formally recognised through prestigious civilian honours, including the Arjuna Award for sports excellence and the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards.
