Kuggelein Dropped by Hampshire Amid Controversial Selection

Hampshire Cricket Club has removed New Zealand all‑rounder Scott Kuggelein from its roster following extensive backlash online. The player had originally been named in the 15‑member squad for the upcoming County Championship match against Warwickshire, but the club reversed its stance within 24 hours.

The plan was for Kuggelein to feature in the final four championship fixtures, yet a club statement on Wednesday confirmed he will not wear Hampshire colours any longer.

The decision is linked to longstanding legal troubles. In 2015 Kuggelein faced rape allegations, leading to two trials. The 2016 trial ended in a hung jury, while the 2017 proceedings resulted in an acquittal.

According to the club, feedback from staff and supporters played a pivotal role in the removal. Hampshire thanked its fan community for raising concerns and urged collective support for the team as it navigates the closing stages of the season.

On the international stage, Kuggelein has appeared in three Tests, two ODIs and eighteen T20s for New Zealand, taking 27 wickets. His domestic career includes 379 first‑class wickets and 175 List‑A scalps, plus two matches in the IPL.
