Kings Baton relay concludes as Games commence in Scotland

Over the past 500 days, the Queen’s Baton Relay has visited every one of the 74 Commonwealth countries and territories, making it the longest relay in the history of the Games. Each nation decorated the Baton to reflect its own cultural identity, and all 74 versions will be displayed together in Glasgow for the first time.

The Scottish Baton, handcrafted from sturdy local timber, will be presented to King Charles III during the opening ceremony. Sir Chris Hoy, who first carried the Baton, praised the occasion, saying that a home‑soil Commonwealth Games always hold special meaning and that Glasgow is poised to host a memorable event.
