Kho‑Kho Star Dhanvin Backs Modi's Youth Sports Drive
Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his Independence Day address to underline India's growing success in sports and to call for greater participation in upcoming Olympic events. He unveiled a "Talent Hunt" program targeting school‑age children from villages to metros, promising systematic training for those who pass the selection tests. Dhanvin Khopkar, a leading kho‑kho player and recent Sardar Patel Junior Award winner, praised the government's move, noting that it could transform India's medal prospects. In an interview with IANS, Khopkar said the initiative is essential because India currently lacks representation in several sports. He foresees a future where athletes discovered through the programme will raise India's medal tally and elevate its sporting stature. Khopkar also expressed hope that kho‑kho will secure a place on the Olympic program.
