Khelo India Goods Scheme Brings Hope to Meerut Sports Industry

Meerut, October 28: Sports businesses in Meerut are optimistic after the Union Cabinet cleared the Khelo India Bharat Good Manufacturing Scheme with a financial outlay of Rs 1,856.67 crore. The scheme, which has been approved globally in scope, was cleared by the Cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Traders say it could open new opportunities for manufacturers and sports enthusiasts alike.

Businesspeople in the city have thanked the government for the decision. They believe it will strengthen the sports trade and help athletes get the equipment they need.

Deepak Goyal, owner of Goyal Sports Industry, said his business had already grown through Khelo India. Goods from his company are reaching schools today, and sports now have a dedicated place in classroom schedules. He said the scheme could create more work for the industry if it actually reaches small manufacturers. He warned that government schemes often fail to reach small industries and benefit only big names. He said Meerut needs this support badly.

Vipin Bhatia, owner of RL Bhatia & Sons, said the scheme would prove very useful if carried out correctly. He said such programmes often reach only a few established players, but would certainly help many more if they reached small manufacturers. He stressed that the sector has plenty of potential but needs better quality, and that the government's help will be required.

Alok Bhatia, owner of Bhatia Sons, said the scheme would be highly beneficial. He said the current government is designing schemes with every section of society in mind. He noted that earlier support through Khelo India had mainly benefited athletes, while manufacturing units had gained indirectly. The new initiative, he said, would give manufacturers a clear advantage in global competition.

Gaurav Mahajan, owner of Misha Sports, said the sports industry had gained from the decision. He said employment would increase and players would feel motivated because they would get better equipment. He added that suppliers would have to sell only good-quality products.
