Khangura’s Comeback Victory Propels Him Into Boys Singles Semis
New Delhi, October 15 – Jagshar Singh Khangura demonstrated resilience at the World Junior Badminton Championships in Cairo, turning a first‑game deficit into a 48‑minute win that booked him a place in the semifinals.
Facing a strong Chinese opponent, Singh lost the opening game 6‑15 but responded with two tightly contested games, 17‑15 and 15‑12, to clinch the match. His performance adds him to the elite list of nine Indian men who have ever reached a junior singles podium.
India’s overall haul from the championship now includes a total of twelve medals: one gold, five silver, and six bronze.
The upcoming semifinal will pit Singh against Indonesia’s Raditya Bayu Wardhana, a 31st‑ranked player. A victory would guarantee Singh an individual medal and bolster India’s standing in the tournament.
Singh’s background includes an Under‑17 national title, an Asian medal, and a consistent climb up the national rankings – he moved to the No.1 spot in the Under‑17 boys’ singles category earlier this year after spending two years at the Bengaluru Centre of Excellence.
